Program Description

Event Details

Parisian composer Claude Debussy’s music is often described as “impressionist,” but he wasn’t a fan of the label. Nevertheless, like the Impressionist painters of his day, Debussy challenged rigid musical traditions, particularly in his 24 preludes for piano. These miraculous small creations constitute a virtual catalog of his pianistic and compositional innovations. In this immersive audiovisual talk, Jeffrey Norwood will explore Debussy’s evocative piano preludes and their inspiration and enduring influence.
