Join Professor Thomas Germano as he discusses a recent exhibition, Fashioned by Sargent, held in the MFA, Boston (2023) and the Tate Britain, London (2024) which explores the art of John Singer Sargent (1864-1925), the greatest portraitist of the Gilded Age, and his relationship to fashion. The exhibition explores the relationship between painting and dress through Sargent’s works alongside exquisite costumes of the period―including garments actually worn by his sitters.
